BAJA 2009 ISSUES

BAJA 2009 ISSUES

Department

Personnel in Baja 2010

Weight reduction, driver foot space, 3” clearance at sides, design did not incorporate all systems well, steering went below bellypan, had to make changes after fabrication for incorporation of certain issues

ROLL CAGE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS

Karthikeyan, Sathish, RamKumar, M.Karthick, Veerapadmanaban.

All rules followed, roll cage 3” inches clearance only not followed, steering stop not done

RULES Verification

Amritha Kulasekharan

Too much of weight and target wheelbase was too small, weight distribution was almost 50:50, weight reduction needed

LAYOUT

Pravin, M.Karthick, Lakshmi

Semi-trailing arm very heavy, ball joint came off during race, use better ball joint next time, wishbone and trailing arm force analysis not optimised, weight reduction

SUSPENSION

Senthil Krishnan, Ranjith Kumar, G.Vinoth Kumar

Tie rods got bent, no force analysis done, cotter pin problem, bell crank very heavy, steering knuckle to be fabricated

STEERING

Arun Kumar, P.Preshanth

Problem in brake test, passed in second attempt, tire pressure to be considered, braking force distribution

BRAKES

Lakshmi, Pravin

For innovations award as well as to assist driver and vehicle, value addition

ELECTRONICS

E.Madhumitha, E.Preshanth, V.Karthick

Lots of patta (L angle and bar) used as brackets for supporting components, fuel tank bracket was around 7mm thick, too heavy, no account of patta weight

WEIGHT OPTIMISATION, MATERIAL SELECTION, MANUFACTURING METHOD SELECTION

Krishnakumar, G.Vinoth Kumar, T.Rajkumar, S.P.Chockalingam

Very late due to delay in funding, have to start early this time, get sponsorship earlier

PROCUREMENT

Vikram, Krishnakumar, Sriram, Pravin, V.Karthick

Has to be done very quickly

SPONSORSHIP

Rahul, P.Preshanth, E.Preshanth, Pravin, Madhumitha, Vijay, Vikram, Krishnakumar, Shivant Krishna

Gear shift problem, only one selector received, therefore lots of slip in gearcable, handbrake handle not attractive

POWER TRAIN ANALYSIS AND MANUFACTURE /PROCUREMENT

P.Arulvel, Ramkumar

To be done well before fabrication starts

LAB ESTABLISHMENT

Vijay, Rahul, Preshanth(E+P), Pravin, (V+M) Karthick, T.Rajkumar, Ranjith Kumar, Krishnakumar

Very late, no time for testing, procurement and sponsorship major bottlenecks

PROCESS PLANNING

P.Preshanth,Pravin, Rahul Sakhamuri, Vijay
